Nearr is a UK-based event discovery platform operated by Nearr ("we", "us", "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

2. What Data We Collect
When you use Nearr, we may collect:
- Account information: Email address, display name, username, profile photo
- Location data: Your device location (only when you grant permission, never stored on our servers)
- Event data: Events you create, save, attend, or interact with
- Social data: Follow relationships, follow requests
- Content you create: Chat messages, discussion posts, announcements, comments, reactions, and pinned messages
- Reviews and ratings: Event reviews and star ratings you submit
- Preferences: Category preferences, interest tags, date of birth (optional), notification settings
- Error reports: App crash data and descriptions submitted via the error reporter
- Device data: Browser type, device type, and anonymised usage analytics
3. How We Use Your Data
- Display nearby events based on your location
- Personalise your experience with preferred categories and interests
- Send notifications about events you save, attend, or follow
- Display event ratings and reviews to help users make informed decisions
- Facilitate real-time chat and discussion within event communities
- Serve relevant advertisements through Google AdSense (non-premium users)
- Track ad performance through anonymised analytics
- Diagnose and fix app errors using submitted error reports
- Cache event data locally on your device for faster loading and offline access
- Automatically scan uploaded images and user-generated text for inappropriate content using on-device processing (no data sent to third parties for moderation)
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase — Database, authentication, and file storage
- Google Maps — Map display and location services
- Google AdSense — Serving advertisements. Google may use cookies to personalise ads. Manage preferences at adssettings.google.com
- Open-Meteo — Weather data (no personal data shared)
- Vercel — Web hosting
5. Data Sharing
Nearr does not sell your personal data to third parties. We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google may collect anonymised browsing data to serve relevant ads. No personal data from your Nearr profile is shared with advertisers.
6. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- Deleted accounts: All data immediately removed upon account deletion. Events you created are anonymised.
- Chat messages: Retained for the lifetime of the event discussion channel
- Reviews: Retained while the reviewed event exists
- Error reports: Retained for 90 days, then deleted
- Notification history: Retained for 7 days, then removed
- Cached data: Stored locally via IndexedDB/service worker, cleared when you clear browser data
7. Data Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), Row Level Security on all database tables, Content Security Policy headers, and input sanitisation to protect your data. Your location is processed on-device and never stored on our servers.
Additional security features available to users:
- Two-factor authentication (2FA): TOTP-based 2FA via authenticator apps (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.) can be enabled in Settings for additional account protection
- Email verification: Required before creating events
- Rate limiting: Automated limits on event creation and message frequency to prevent abuse
- Audit logging: All event creation, modification, and deletion is logged for dispute resolution
8. Cookies
We use cookies, localStorage, IndexedDB, and service workers. Google AdSense uses cookies to serve and measure advertisements. See our Cookie Policy tab for full details.
9. Your Rights (UK GDPR)
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of your data
- Rectification — correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — request deletion of your data
- Restriction — limit how we process your data
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Objection — object to processing of your data
To exercise any right, email privacy@nearr.uk. We respond within 30 days.
You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

1. Acceptance
By using Nearr you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
2. The Service
Nearr is a web-based platform for discovering, sharing, and managing local events. Features include event browsing on an interactive map, event creation, saving and attendance tracking, following other users, real-time event discussions, reviews and ratings, and personalised recommendations.
3. Your Account
You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You must be at least 13 years old to use Nearr.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Nearr responsibly and in accordance with our Community Guidelines. This includes your behaviour in event discussions, chat channels, reviews, and any content you post or share.
You must not: create fake events, harass other users, post illegal or harmful content, attempt to access other users' accounts, scrape or misuse data, circumvent security measures, or use the platform for spam or advertising.
Content Moderation
Nearr uses automated systems to maintain a safe environment:
- Image scanning: All uploaded images (event photos, profile pictures, cover photos, announcement images) are automatically scanned for inappropriate content before publishing. Explicit, suggestive, or otherwise inappropriate images will be blocked.
- Text filtering: All user-generated text (event titles, descriptions, chat messages, reviews, profile information, announcements) is checked for serious offensive content including hate speech, slurs, threats of violence, and extremist content.
- Automated review: These checks run automatically and do not require manual approval. Nearr reserves the right to manually review any content and take action if necessary.
- False positives: If your content was incorrectly flagged, contact support@nearr.uk.
5. Content
You retain ownership of content you create. By posting on Nearr, you grant us a licence to display it within the platform. We may remove content that violates these terms or our Community Guidelines.
6. Event Information
Nearr does not guarantee the accuracy, safety, or legality of events listed. Event details are provided by organisers. Always verify event information independently. Nearr is not responsible for anything that happens at events listed on the platform.
7. Intellectual Property
The Nearr name, logo, design, and codebase are our property. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute any part of the platform without written permission.
8. Advertising
Nearr displays advertisements via Google AdSense to support the service. Google may use cookies and browsing data to personalise ads. Clicking an advertisement takes you to a third-party site governed by their own terms. Nearr does not control third-party ad content.
9. Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time through Settings.
10. Limitation of Liability
Nearr is provided "as is" without warranties. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the platform, third-party content, or events listed on Nearr.
11. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be notified within the app.

What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We also use similar technologies including localStorage, IndexedDB, and service workers.
Cookies We Use
- Essential: Authentication session tokens (keeping you signed in), security tokens, CSRF protection
- Preferences: Onboarding completion, category filters, display settings, cookie consent choices
- Performance: IndexedDB for caching event data for offline access, service worker for caching app assets and API responses
- Advertising: Google AdSense cookies for serving and measuring personalised advertisements

Managing Cookies
You can manage cookie preferences through the cookie consent banner in the app. You can also manage Google ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com. Blocking essential cookies may prevent the app from functioning.

Delete Your Account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Privacy & Legal → Account & Data Deletion within the app.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, the following is permanently removed:
- Your profile, display name, username, avatar, bio, and all personal information
- All chat messages and reactions in event discussions
- All event reviews and ratings
- All follow relationships (followers and following)
- All notifications
- Saved events and attendance records
- Event preferences, interests, and settings
- Announcement posts and comments
- Error reports and ad analytics
- Events you created are anonymised (shown as "Deleted User") but remain visible
Locally cached data (IndexedDB, service worker) remains on your device until you clear your browser data.
Request Your Data
Under UK GDPR Article 15, you have the right to request a copy of all personal data we hold. Email privacy@nearr.uk with the subject "Data Access Request". We respond within 30 days.
